POI Synchronisation

The online POI synchronisation ensures that the user always has the most up-to-date POI data. The synchronisation works both ways, which means that other users can profit from your data just as you can profit from theirs. The synchronisation is done as follows:

Please install and register the POI-Warner in accordance with the instructions provided in the POI-Warner Quickstart guide. You will find this on your PC after installing the POI-Warner under Start > Programs > POI-Warner > Sync Tool, or in your profile .

First you need to make sure that your device is connected to your PC and that the ActiveSync/Mobile Device Center connection symbol is green. It is also vital that any open ActiveSync/Mobile Device Center connection window attempting to set-up a partnership is closed before continuing. Your PC must have an active Internet connection and your firewall may need to be configured to allow the connection between your device, the computer and the Internet. Virus scanners can also interfere with the synchronization and may need to be temporarily disabled.

You can establish whether your device has an active Internet connection by opening the POI-Warner Sync Tool on your PC under Start > Programs > POI-Warner > Sync Tool.

If the icons are displayed in this dialog, the POI Warner has successfully established a connection to the Internet via your PC and you can continue with Step One (below). Otherwise you ought to check the settings of the other devices involved (Firewall, Virus-Scanner etc.) and then attempt to repeat the procedure.

After making sure that a live Internet connection can be established with your device, you now just need to register with one or both of the POI providers offering the automatic POI sync function: (POI for the UK and Europe, etc).  (POI for Germany, Austria and Switzerland). These sites offer access to a huge selection of free POI overlays as well as access to certain POI that require an annual paying subscription, other premium POI services and further synchronisation services for the POI-Warner.

To register, you will need your POI Warner ID (you will find your ID at the top of the POI Warner registration window, under File > Register, in the POI-Warner main menu) and your transaction number from us (to be found in your profile on our website).

You can also connect to the POI services to register and get a user name by clicking on the button next to (or in the POI-Warner Sync Tool under Extras > Settings.

Once you have registered at one or both of these providers, you now simply need to enter the username/s you chose or received during registration in the POI Warner sync settings in the POI-Warner Sync Tool on your PC (under Start > Programs > POI-Warner > Sync Tool and then under Extras > Settings).

Now simply check the boxes next to the POI types you wish to synchronise in the POI-Warner PC Sync Tool main Window using the drop-down menu to select the overlay categories. If you have not got an active account for certain paying services (for the speed cams, for example), you will receive an error-message when attempting to synchronise the category in question. Please deselect this or these overlays in that case before synchronising again.

During the first synchronisation overlays will only be downloaded, but you can start adding or updating POI in your vicinity on your navigation system map yourself immediately using the POI Recorder and the POI Manager. All changes will then be uploaded to the server in question automatically during the next synchronisation and added to the database. At the same time you will profit from newer data added by other users and data updates that have been fed directly onto the server.

When several maps are in use, the POI Warner automatically decides which POI from which overlays are to be displayed on the map excerpts/routes concerned. It is neither necessary nor possible to manipulate this process manually.

If you access the Internet via proxy, you will need to enter the proxy address under Extras > Proxy. Select Proxy Server and enter the address below, then type the proxy port. If you have a proxy user name and password, enter these in the relevant slots. Click on Apply to activate your settings.

* The laws pertaining to the use of speed camera data are not standardised throughout Europe. Please check if the use of such data is legal in the country in which you are driving. In Germany, for example, the use of such data whilst driving is an offence.
